The Young Adult – Coaching for Well-Being Program aims to develop the optimum mental and emotional health of the young adult.
Aimed at teens aged 13 to 18 years, this program focuses explicitly on building deep self-confidence, self-efficacy, and positive self-perception from the inside out.
The teenage years are a time when our young people find themselves. They begin to explore and discover their individuality. It is a wonderful and sometimes uncertain time of change and becoming. In today’s world, teens are under increased pressure from the outside world to ‘fit in’. The evolving culture of their social world, e.g. social media platforms, is making it increasingly difficult for teens to find space to connect with themselves and discover who they are. Studies have shown a 15% increase in anxiety levels among our youth in the short time-frame of 2007 – 2015. Their experience of the world is certainly a lot different from ours, not that long ago.
What has not changed, however, is the natural ability within your child to learn skills and ways to build positive mental and emotional health. Learning effective ways to communicate positive self-talk and ignite positive emotion is a powerful ability that is both easy and a pleasure for your child to learn. But most of all, it will make a profound difference to who they become and their life experience.
Is this a counselling program?
The direct answer is no.
What is the difference between Coaching and Counselling?
The main difference is that coaching primarily focuses on the solution to problems. It is strengths focused. Counselling primarily focuses on the problem and seeks to find solutions around the issue.
Although in coaching, we certainly explore the issues your child may have, the focus of our conversation will delve deep into ways in which your child can find and build their self-confidence and self-efficacy. I aim to help your child explore and get to know who they are, to develop a strong sense of self and be true to that.
Both professions (coaching and counselling) use similar skills, e.g. empathy, active listening, feedback, and intuition. However, we use these skills in different ways, and the conversation will differ in direction.
My goal is to help your child realize and unlock the potential within, grow their confidence and move forward to reach their potential for happiness and well-being.
Throughout the program, I work with your teen to grow the following life skills:
- Self-belief & Self-efficacy
- Positive Mental Attitude and self-talk
- Grit, fortitude & resilience
- Decision-making skills
- Goal Setting
Whether your child struggles with poor self-confidence and low self-esteem or is a high achiever who overloads themselves with a demand for ‘perfectionism’, I work with him/her to develop strong self-belief both socially and academically. On completion, your child will have developed a ‘can do’ attitude that becomes a set point for life in an ever-challenging world.
The Young Adult – Coaching for Well-Being program is facilitated either on a one to one or as a group program. At all times, I tailor each session to the specific needs of the young adult present.
